Sig Sauer P224

Sig Sauer P224

1/16/2012

The Sig Sauer P224 was one of the handguns on display at Media Day.

When it comes to recent trends in concealed carry pistols, it seems the smaller the gun the better. But when you're faced with defending yourself and your family, will those small guns rise to the challenge?

SIG Sauer's new P224 pistol rises to the challenge as the first true subcompact in the company's all-metal line. The P224 maintains a double-stack magazine for a capacity of 11 rounds of 9 mm and 10 rounds of .40 S&W or .357 SIG. The gun also features full-size SIGLITE Night Sights.

American Rifleman Managing Editor Aaron Carter tracked down the new P224 at the 2012 Media Day at the Range in Boulder City, Nev., and fired more than a few rounds through it.

Fully agree with Swinson. In a high stress scenario you want a real gun. If you are going to carry a weapon, carry a weapon. H and K USP is the gun I like

Small guns are great if you use playing cards for targets like I do. Forget a full size target, a blind man can hit those with a hog leg.

I would rather carry a 10 shot .40 then a hand cannon that I find bulky and difficult to carry and present.

Looks like a chopped P229. Looks like it will sell well.

High stress situations are tough. I would not want to have to use a small pistol in a very high stress situation. I think they are at best a compromise, granted the gun you carry is a better gun then the one you don't.
