In the past few months, I have been working with a number of .380 pistols. They're pretty hot right now, with many competing models on dealer's shelves. Two .380 pistol articles have appeared under my by-line, one in Shooting Illustrated, the other in American Rifleman. Since their publication, S&W introduced yet another little .380 in the polymer framed Bodyguard. It's safe to say that the .380 auto is a hot gun right now. I have spent a great deal of time dealing with them. Apparently, I didn't spend quite enough Both NRA articles contained a rather glaring error. Bluntly, I was wrong when I described the Magnum Research Micro Desert Eagle as a straight blowback .380. It is actually a unique form of gas-assisted blowback. I somehow missed this and regret not providing this information to interested readers. And I am indebted to my colleague J.B. Wood, who had written for many publications for many years. He took the time to call and point out my error. He did so in the most gentlemanly way possible. As it happens, he caught me on another one over 20 years ago, so I owe him.
