Aggressive Mobs

With the current riots in England being featured nightly on the news, flash mobs are quickly becoming a real safety concern. It is even becoming an issue here with attacks at the Wisconsin State Fair last week, among other criminal acts committed by large groups of people.

The first concern with riots is that they can happen anywhere and anytime, but primarily happen in areas where people congregate in large groups. The biggest concern, however, is how to protect yourself and your family if you happen to be caught in one. As with most self-defense scenarios, the best way to survive an aggressive mob is by being aware of the situation and to avoid it by heading the other way. But since these riots can happen quickly, avoidance might be impossible. You should always know the quickest way out of every area and have multiple escape plans to ensure your safety.

But at the same time you should also be prepared to stand up to a crowd as a last resort. If you have to fight find a location with a good backstop so you can only be approached from one direction. This gives you at least some tactical advantage, as you cannot be attacked from behind. At this point you should call the police, provide them with the situation and your location and decide the best way to fight.

It seems as if riots are beginning to occur in places once considered to be safe. The problem is group mentality. It only takes an aggressive few to turn ordinary people into a mob. Since never leaving your home is not an option, having a plan could be your only hope.

I must apologise now for my actions if these young flash people should accost any of my family with violence or with bodily endangerment. I will do my best to retreat from the violent scene but if I can't or a member of my family for some reason can't get away then I will be forced to cause them much bloodshed. It is just a matter of time but it will happen you can count on it. The reason for concealed carry is self preservation from deadly force with deadly force. May God help us all.

Ohio member. If you have been paying attention to the news, you would know that at the Wisconsin state fair, people were attacked as they left the fair because of their race. It's been all over the news the last week.

Dear Mr. Rackley, I thoroughly enjoy all of your blog entries and frequent the site to keep up to date with all of them. They all have the reoccuring theme of awareness and self protection during every waking moment of life, never knowing when/where danger could be. I'm assuming this is not yourself being paranoid but rather being used to keep the reader thinking about various things that could occur at any given time. If you have time in a future blog I would be interested to hear your take and or facts on Concealed Carry being legal/illegal on college campuses. I believe I have heard it is legal in only one of our 50 states (the exact one is slipping my mind at the moment) Thank you

Ok, this is a good start. What about planning not to be in an area at a certain time of day/night to avoid flash mobs…. How about making sure your cell phone always has a charge and your car has at least ¼ tank of gas to get away. Also, what about “sheltering in place”…where to “duck and cover” so to speak; like HIDE if need be. First aid is essential. You never know when you will need a bit more than a band aid if you or family becomes a victim. Not to mention Mace or Pepper spray can be carried where legal.

You could always yell and act as if your part of it as you make your way threw the crowd, violence is always the last option. Now I'm not saying loot or bust anything up, but if you make a little noise shout a couple of yeas and throw your shirt over your face or something cause with your back against a wall you have to reload sometime and an angry mob is most likely to not be too pleased if you empty a clip at them and will most likely overtake the typical untrained citizen and even some trained before the finish there reload. Just saying if you can't make it as a group by trying to flee then it would be better to blend then to try and stick out, and also most that riot do so for a cause and beside the negative stigma of rioting the chances are that they will not be rioting aginst there fellow citizens. But I would still be ready for conflict at a moments notice

I must have missed the news of mob violence at the WI State Fair. You're not confusing the group of protesters who were chanting at Walker with a violent mob, are you??? If so, you are confusing those peoples' rights to free speech with an illegal, violent mob. I don't agree with that group's politics, either, but I fought to ensure their right to free speech. I know my NRA wouldn't try to manipulate facts to sway opinion, at least the old NRA didn't do things like that.
