Mossberg 464 SPX

Mossberg released its original model 464 lever-action rifle in early 2008, which—not coincidentally—wasn’t long after Winchester announced that it would no longer be manufacturing Model 94s in the U.S. The original 464 has a fair bit in common with the Model 94s, but the SPX is a different beast entirely—it's not a cowboy gun, and it's probably not for everyone.

The SPX is a lever-action gun that could either be taken into the field or pressed into service in a home-defense or disaster situation. It comes with a number of tactical amenities: a shorter barrel, an optional flash hider, a threaded barrel for sound suppressors, fiber-optic sights and a tri-rail fore-end.

The new look and feel may not appeal to everyone, but the 464 SPX is designed for a market that's gone increasingly tactical—and it comes with the exceptional reliability you'd expect from a Mossberg.

Actually I have handled one. I know the weapon looks weird, but the adjustable stock is great. I want one since I can adjust it to full length for myself and then back down for my kids to shoot it. Also the fiber optic sights are nice as well.

Rhis would be a good hog gun as it is set up for lights and or red/green dot. Also, it would be a good truck gun as it will easily fit under the back seat of my truck out of sight. I'm not a collrctor so I don't buy guns for their looks. I buy guns for tehir function and this will get the jib done!

I have a model 94, first gun I ever bought. Though I have handled this Mossberg as well. I first thought it was just trying to fit in with the tacticool guns, but it does handle well and the fiber optic sights really pop. Though it would be nice to see it in .357, .44 mag, etc. like some other lever action carbines.

Lever actions are great. Its the first type of assult rifle. My 30-30 marlin is my best friend in the woods, in the open, and last but not least the house. anyone who says otherwise has more then likley not tested the leaver action 30-30 or they talk out their fourth point of contact. I think this would be a great addition to my collection.

Ought to be one under everyones Christmas Tree. This tool is handy and tough. Surely other calibers will be available soon. The muzzle brake/flash hider may have to come off.

I agree it's not as attractive as a regular 30/30, but it's not suppose to be. It's a tactical weapon first. When you have options like flash/noise suppression, collapsible stock You're not talking about a show gun. I do agree they need to make it available in different calibers to match up with carry guns. Personally I wouldn't want a lever action for a tactical weapon unless it was just a back up at home. Easier to stay on target with an auto-loader, and not as hard to shoot when in a prone position. Don't want to give your position away with unnecessary movement.

bOOlit don't care how ugly the gun is! 30-30 is too much gun for home defense, unless you don't like your neighbors. The Marlin's in 38 & 44 would be a much better choice.

To the uninformed fellow above. Winchester quit making the 94 because it was not profitable. The true side eject Marlin 336 was beating them hands down in sales. Marlin still does a brisk business in 30-30 sales via the 336 line up of guns. Ammo sales for the 30-30 cartridge is still strong as well.

I can see this being a big hit when/if semi-automatic rifles are banned. I wonder if Mossberg is looking toward that contingency with this rifle, or if it's just meant for the niche "I like weird guns" market.

I agree with Joe, bring on the big bore pistol calibers. It would nearly double the round capacity, and having a tactical carbine that's ammo compatible with a defensive revolver would be slick. Some folks reject pistol cartridge carbines for self defense, but they have plenty of power to get the job done at home defense distances and are fun to take to the range.
