Called the LE901-16S Modular Carbine, Colt's new 7.62x51 mm NATO is an "out-of-the-box" concept that's a marriage of the AR-10 and AR-15 platforms. An adaptive rifle that uses a highly modified and upgraded AR-15 lower receiver with an equally unique AR-10 magazine well, the LE901-16S quickly converts to an M4-type carbine in 5.56x45 mm NATO.
Conversions for the AR platform aren't a new innovation, but Colt's LE901-16S is a unique adaptation. It's an "out-of-the-box" design that's an ideal addition to the Gun of the Week series.
I got one and it is soooo heavy. Instead of buying the conversion kit I went out and bought a good Smith & Wesson.

Contacted Colt. They claim the conversion kit is not in production yet. They also mentioned not to buy an upper yet since the kit might come with the upper. I feel like we have been mislead. I figured the kit would come with the rifle. Anyone else have any luck?

I have one as well. Perhaps if Colt can't release these someone can manufacture their own adaptor plate. This shouldn't be that hard. We already know what it looks like and I'm sure getting the measurements right would be fairly easy. All you need to do then is find a decent sheet metal guy or local machine shop. Maybe it's already being done...

I have the same issue as Mr MacKenzie. I paid what I consider a high end price expecting to get the conversion kit with the rile. The advertising doesn't really say that but sort of implies it to buy stating 'accommodates any mil-spec upper'. Now I'm wondering if the kit mentioned in AR really exists at all. Nobody can find a 6920CK listed anywhere. I'm going to try the letter approach too but I'd really like some help from folks like AR who reviewed the gun and sort of 'sold' it for Colt to help us out by getting an update on when a conversion kit will really be available. Maybe someone from Colt will actually talk to them?

There are pros and cons between direct impingment and gas piston design, but to call DI guns "crappy" and DI AR-15s a "marginal design at best" sounds kind of narrow-minded and fanboy-ish to me. Seems to me if they were that horrible, they would not be the de-facto gun in the US and many other militaries.

Unfortunately, it's always discussed in the various reviews with a 5.56 upper and adapter for the conversion.
It DOES NOT come with the adapter (or buffer spring), and there's apparently no "kit" available, and no projected time when it will be available. I've emailed Colt several times, posted on their Facebook page ... can't get a human on the phone when I call ... it's very frustrating.
SO, please, talk to Colt and find out when the conversion kit will be available, and how much will it cost; you'd be doing E901 owners a great favor since Colt apparently doesn't like to talk to their fans and consumers.
