IWI Tavor

Originally developed in close cooperation with the Israel Defense Force (IDF), the IWI TAVOR was created to excel in close-quarters engagements—and now a civilian version is available. The bullpup design moves the rifle's center of gravity closer to its handler's body, allowing for instinctive aiming and improved acquisition time to target. Better yet, its full-length barrel means no loss of down range accuracy.

With the exception of a hand-specific locking bolt, the rifle is completely ambidextrous—you can easily convert the operating handle, ejection port, fire-control safety, sling swivel receptacles and fore-mounted accessory Picatinny rail to suit a left-handed shooter.

You can get a closer look at the TAVOR below, in a video hosted by American Rifleman Senior Executive Editor Brian Sheetz.

Dominic, where did you buy yours? I've been looking all over. I tried Cabela's today and the people at the counter looked at me like I was nuts. They don't do business with IWI at all.

Got my hands on one. Really really nice weapons system. Comfortable to shoot. My left handed wife loves it also.

I used to own a Ruger AC-556 (mini-14 selct-fire) that I put in a Choate bullpup stock. yes, it was much easier to handle on full auto, but the heat build up prevented fireing it for more han just a few seconds(say, 1 30-40 rnd mag) then you would have to let it cool for at least 5 minutes or you could wind up with facial burns

Good design, sturdy construction by all appearances. Not a fan of peep sites on short-barrel jobs though. Seems pricey, unless it has some built-in toughness/tech. ;)

Those sights do not look all that sturdy. Looks like they would be easily bent. Anyone know how strong they are?

I'd love to have a bullpup of some form. But even in today's market, there's no way I'm paying 2 grand for anything. Maybe some day when der Fuhrer is gone things will change and I'll be able to try one out. Or maybe they will all be illegal for anyone to own except the government. It's up to you guys. And from the results of last election, I think i know which way it's going to go. What a pity, this experiment was going so well until 1912.

Little first hand experience with Bullpups, I am left handed also, I understand that conversion from right to left is "easily" accomplished, none the less, it must be done. It isn't simply a mater of brass flying past my face, if I try to shoot it in left handed while it is configured for right hand. the thing is actually trying to but the empty brass in my ear. With the chamber that close to your ear, it must be painful should be forced to fire it without hearing protection. Lastly, the trigger is a long way from the firing mechanism. the contortions that the mechanical linkage has to go through to make the thing go bang pretty much preclude a nice clean trigger pull.

When can I get one in .308?

I shoot left handed, but I still dislike bull-pups. The chamber is to close to my face. Maybe I'm just a Traditionalist (Old Timer).
