The number of background checks performed by the FBI this year in Ohio has been a big indicator that gun sales are on the rise in the state. Gun advocates and local store owners attribute the spike to increasing political and economic fears.
While the number of concealed handgun permits dropped in 2010, the state saw record numbers in 2009 and still considers the trend to be on the upward climb.
The FBI performed 247,847 background checks in Ohio during the first seven months of this year, up 17.7 percent from 2010.
