From NRA-ILA: Ruger President and CEO Mike Fifer was recognized as the 2012 Distinguished Corporate Leader at the 2012 NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits on April 12 in St. Louis, Mo., for his efforts in achieving the 1.2 Million Gun Challenge. Awarded annually, the honor was presented to Fifer at a private luncheon and signifies oustanding corporate leadership.

Its presentation came on the heels of the completion of Ruger's 1.2 Million Gun Challenge. Beginning in May 2011 (and originally called the Million Gun Challenge), Ruger's self-imposed mission was to sell 1 million guns over the course of a single year. A dollar would be presented to the NRA Institute for Legislative Action for each firearm sold.

The Million Gun Challenge became the 1.2 Million Gun Challenge at SHOT Show 2012, after Ruger customers purchased more firearms than the company ever anticipated.

Past Distinguished Corporate Leader award winners include Dick Heckert, J.D. Williams, Joe Gregory, Eric Johanson, Ugo Beretta and Larry and Brenda Potterfield.
