The National Shooting Sports Foundation's First Shots Big City Tour stopped in Houston on August 2 for three days of seminars and supervised, safe introductions to target shooting. Over 200 people attended at four host ranges. At the event certified firearm instructors introduced participants to topics such as safe firearms handling and storage, federal and state laws and the responsibilities of a firearm owner. On the range, participants took shots in a safe, controlled environment. The four ranges to host the First Shots event were the American Shooting Centers in Houston, High Noon Indoor Pistol Range in Crosby, Spring Guns and Ammo in Spring, and The Arms Room in League City. First Shots was developed because people across the country expressed an interest in learning more about firearms and target shooting, with a 2010 NSSF poll showing that 43 percent, or 98 million people, showed some level of interest in the shooting sports or hunting.
