9/29/2011 The Oregon Court of Appeals overturned a ban on the possession of firearms at state universities Wednesday, September 28, 2011. After a Western Oregon University student was suspended in 2009 for possessing a handgun, the Oregon Firearms Educational Foundation brought a challenge to the Oregon University System ruling. The decision was based on the fact that, while the Board of Higher Education has authority to set policies for its campuses, the no-gun rule violated a 1995 law that allows only the Legislature to regulate firearms.
