Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress around 11 p.m. A 56-year-old woman and her 15-year-old son were at home when two armed men broke in through the front door and demanded money. During the robbery, the son was shot in the leg by one of the offenders and the mother was shot in the arm when she attempted to flee. The woman's husband was in a different part of the home when he heard the gunshots. He retrieved a firearm and walked in on the robbery in progress. He fired several shots, striking both offenders. Both intruders fled the scene on foot. Warrants were issued for their arrest, and they face charges on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of burglary. Both mother and son were treated for their injuries and are reportedly expected to recover. (The Valdosta Daily Times, Valdosta, GA, 6/18/14)

The Armed Citizen Extra
Two would-be robbers bit off more than they could chew when they entered a St. Louis, Mo., restaurant just after midnight and demanded money. Armed with handguns, one creep held the owner at gunpoint while the other emptied the cash register. While the one robber's attention was turned, the restaurant owner, a licensed concealed carrier, drew his own weapon and opened fire. At least one of the assailants returned fire. One of the culprits was shot in the leg and buttocks, and was arrested at the scene. His partner fled the restaurant, and is being sought by law enforcement. The police are unclear as to whether or not the fleeing robber was also struck by a bullet during the exchange. No other injuries were reported, and a gun and the money were recovered at the scene. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis, MO, 11/2/14)

From the Armed Citizen Archives May 1984:
A 16-year-old Riverside, Calif., girl was walking to school when a pickup truck carrying three people pulled up behind her. One man jumped out and began chasing the girl, catching her when she tripped and fell. The man began beating the girl and pounding her face into the dirt. A passing motorist saw the attack, pulled over, and tried to stop the attack by threatening the assailant with a baseball bat. When that failed, he got a handgun from his car, whereupon the attacker immediately ran for the truck and was driven away. (The Press-Enterprise, Riverside, CA)
