A Guide to the SHOT Show

NRA Publications editors and staff will be part of the thousands of media members (1,804 attended last year) that will descend on Las Vegas, Nev., next week for the world’s  premier exposition of combined firearms, ammunition, archery, cutlery, outdoor apparel, optics, camping and related products and services. They call it SHOT Show.

SHOT Show Poised For New, Improved Venue

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the non-profit industry organization that owns the SHOT (Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade) Show, is marking its 50th anniversary this year and the 2011 SHOT Show promises to spearhead the organization’s celebration with a strong show in a renovated Sands convention center.

The Amazing Story Of The AR

Try as I may to think of something comparable, I can’t come up with anything to match the staggering surge in popularity of the AR-platform rifle over the past few years. Glock comes to mind, but the Austrian polymer gun took at least a decade (starting in 1985) to solidly grab the law enforcement handgun market. The 1911 is another possibility, but the growth in sales of Old Slab Sides has been incremental, not like the recent rocket of the AR.
