While I’ve never been a devoted user of Facebook, I do occasionally log on to keep up with family and friends. I’ve also discovered that a lot of useful tips get passed on through social media, including this one for finding a lost child when at a major public event.

I travel a great deal on the open highways of the western states. As a retired Peace Officer, I have the required permits to make it perfectly legal to carry a gun while I do this. You will never get me to condone carrying guns when it is in any way illegal. There are many laws that are nonsensical, but I have a citizen’s duty to obey them—and exercise the citizen’s right to vote to change them. At the outset of this discussion, please understand that when the laws of your state do not allow carrying as a motorist, the rest of what I have to say is moot.

This is an old term that describes the means by which a handgunner can tie his handgun to his person. Without exception, a lanyard ring is a steel ring or oval mounted on a swiveling mount on the butt of the handgun. The shooter uses a lanyard (heavy cord) that usually goes around his torso and snaps into the ring on the gun. If the handgunner goes into the water or takes a serious fall in rough country, he can be assured that the gun won’t stray too far.

Ten year olds were playing checkers, Uno ruled the main hallway, and a group of 8 year olds were constructing a house of cards with more square feet and floors than my current home. Smartphones, iPads and videogames were mysteriously absent. The politeness ran thick in the group of more than 2,000 people and 54 teams of young shooters from across the nation crowded into the Rogers, Ark., convention center.

After Governor Andrew Cuomo railroaded the Draconian “Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013” through both houses of New York legislature in Albany—in which the oppressive bill wasn’t even allowed the normal legislative comment and inspection period—many wondered when Kahr Arms would make a move. We received our answer today. Kahr Arms, which also includes Auto-Ordnance and Magnum Research, will be “expanding its corporate offices and engineering department into Pike County, Pa., which is about an hour-and-a-half west of its current location in Pearl River, N.Y. Kahr is buying 620 acres from the Pike County Industrial Park Development Group/Business Development Corporation. The site is near Scranton, and construction is said to start as early as this year. Both Kahr’s manufacturing plants—one in Worchester, Mass., and the other in Pillager, Minn.—are working at full capacity and are not included in the move, although Kahr plans to eventually expand manufacturing to the Pennsylvania site.
