On Saturday night, I was absently checking Facebook when I came across a post from my friend Philip Schreier, “This is very sad and disturbing. Chris was scheduled to visit the museum and tape some TV segment in the near future.” There was a link to an item reporting the death of former U.S. Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer Chris Kyle. News accounts allege that Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield were murdered by a former Marine suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Any good (or better) quality handgun from Colt or Smith & Wesson probably deserves a so-called “factory letter” to go with it. Both companies offer this service and while it is getting expensive, it may, in the long run, add to the value of the gun. Basically, a factory letter is derived from the shipping records of the company and reports the basic description of the gun, any special features, the day that it left the factory and to whom it was shipped. Today that means a gun store with an FFL, but in older times, guns sometimes went straight to the end user.

A number of companies have trimmed the stock of a hunting rifle and called it a "women's" gun—but Savage Arms set out to design a rifle that was truly designed for female hunters and shooters. The company listened to what women had to say, and used that feedback to help create the latest AmericanRifleman.org Gun of the Week: the Model 11/111 Lady Hunter.

The Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program works. I know this because a good friend of mine used it to teach his sons about firearms. I’m planning on using it to teach my kids about what to do if they come across an unsecured, unsupervised firearm.

I can’t collect handguns because I can’t afford it. You have to accept the difference between an organized collection of specimens of a particular make or model, and an accumulation of different handguns that fill specific needs in your shooting life or were priced right when you thought they were really neat. My limited little armory is in the latter category. I am fooling around with a particular category of gun collection, but for now I am more of a gun accumulator than a gun collector. I suspect that many readers are in similar situations, so may I suggest another form of gun-related collecting?

North American Arms introduces its' .22 Mag. Mini-Revolver and Holster Grip Accessory. This is ideal option for concealed carry, especially for women. They may be small, but they pack a big punch. These holster grips fold knife-like against the bottom of the gun, and fold out to a full-sized grip, giving the user a better grip on the gun considering how small it is, and reducing felt-recoil. This is a 5-shot .22 mag that is spur-triggeredl. The clip is ambidextrous, which is great for clipping to a purse or in a concealed-carry bag.

The reason that experts are constantly training is that repetition builds fundamentals, and fundamentals are the foundation of good marksmanship. Not having to think about how to line up the sights, reload or clear a malfunction, allow users to be faster at responding to a deadly threat, and can be the difference between winning and losing a fight.
