Crimson Trace AR15/M16 Lasergrips (LG-525)

The advantages of Crimson Trace’s Lasergrips are now available for the AR15/M16-style rifle.

Since 1994, thousands of Crimson Trace Lasergrips have found their way into the hands of troops overseas and onto the ranges in the United States. No matter how tough the conditions, Crimson Trace Lasergrips have proven they speed target acquisition and improve hit probability. The advantages of Crimson Trace's Lasergrips are now available for the AR15/M16-style rifle. Specifically designed to replace the pistol grip of the AR15/M16 lower receiver, the easily installed polymer grip/arm assembly cleanly orients the laser device along the top of fixed carry-handle guns. The laser's housing is secured to the carry handle by means of a specially engineered elastomer that ensures repeatable accuracy and quick on/off capability. The grip's body houses the power source-a 3-volt lithium battery good for 20 hours of constant use. At just 3 ozs., the LG-525 unit adds little weight to the rifle.

As with other Crimson Trace Lasergrips, users will find the LG-525 instinctively activates by gently squeezing the grip. The activation button on the LG-525 is comfortably located at the top of the frontstrap, convenient for both left- and right-handed shooters. To prevent accidental activation during storage, an on/off switch is located in a recess at the base of the grip. The tested sample provided a bright and clear red dot on the target with each activation. During firing and sighting with the LG-525, our DPMS Panther Carbine held a 3" group while shooting more than one-hundred rounds from a bench.

As a teaching aid, the LG-525 allows a coach or instructor to observe weaknesses or errors in a student's shooting, providing an effective training tool. Using a Crimson Trace Lasergrip gives the instructor an opportunity to make corrections before shots are even fired. Safety always being at the forefront of every lesson, the LG-525 improves a shooter's target and muzzle awareness.

Nearly 80 percent of all armed encounters occur in low-light or no-light conditions. These kinds of circumstances make it difficult for even the most alert shooters to acquire the threat or focus on their sights. A moving target makes the situation even more difficult. With Crimson Trace Lasergrips, the shooter has a heads-up target identifier that has been proven to serve as a non-lethal deterrent.

Shooters who use AR15/M16-style rifles for varmint shooting or other types of outdoor sport shooting will find that the same advantages that benefit the target shooter, law-enforcement officer and soldier also benefits them. If a game animal, predator or varmint has spotted you, chances are it is already moving. Again the advantage goes to rifles equipped with laser sights like the LG-525-especially on those cloudy days or just before the sun begins to set. The darker it is the farther the projected laser will remain visible.

A Crimson Trace representative warned us that if we did not secure the knob opposite the laser's housing, we could over-torque the sighting screw and break the device's ability to change zero. This is something we did in fact find out on our first sample, as we were unable to sight the laser in during testing. Being cautious of this fact ensured us with quick and repeatable zeroing with our second sample. The LG-525 worked flawlessly on our DPMS Panther carbine and sighting-in took just seven rounds. The Crimson Trace unit proves to be a handsome and functional sighting aid for the AR-family of rifles and carbines.
