Shared Goals
Although these two groups are self-contained entities that cater to their specific markets, don't think that they work in a vacuum from each other. There is a great deal of crossover between them, with many of their products sharing the same base platforms. For example, both offer precision rifles based on the Model 700 and scatterguns based on the Model 870. They take advantage of each other's good ideas and work with each other to make sure they each get the right products into the right individuals' hands.
It is unfortunate, and for obvious reasons, that civilians cannot purchase many of the products offered by these groups. Legal restrictions on the ownership of suppressed firearms and on shotguns with barrels shorter than 18 inches make many of them off limits for most of us. However, products such as many of the Model 870 variants with barrel lengths greater than 18 inches, as well the 7600P and 7615P series of patrol rifles, are available through Remington-authorized law enforcement wholesalers.
The Tradition Continues
The connection between Remington and the law enforcement and military communities is definitely a long-term relationship. Building upon its history with these two important groups, Remington—through the efforts of the Remington Law Enforcement and Military Products Divisions—will continue to provide the right guns and gear to those to who protect us.
Linked To Training
Sometimes it's the seemingly minor details that can cause the most headaches. For example, with more and more members of the U.S. military receiving supplemental training at privately run facilities, the restrictions against U.S. military ammunition being shipped to non-governmental locations has become a problem.
In response, Remington MPD has developed a line of linked .55-gr. .223 Rem. UMC FMJ ammunition. The result is ammunition that can easily be shipped to training facilities around the country and that can be safely used on steel targets—something that cannot be said about the U.S. military's SS109 green-tip penetrator ammunition.
