6/29/10 Team Hornady Shooter and longtime Hornady employee John Potratz won the 2010 Iowa State bench rest shooting championship, held June 19th in Pella, Iowa. The competition required 2 five-shot groups from two different rifles, one in the light class (17 pounds and under) and one in the heavy guns (unlimited), with each shot being taken at 1,000 yards. According to Hornady, John was shooting Hornady® 30 caliber 208 gr A-MAX® bullets in his heavy gun, chambered in 30-375 Ruger, and Hornady® 7 mm 162-grain A-MAX® bullets in a 280 Remington Improved cartridge. The Light Gun targets measured an impressive 4.915 inches / 47 followed by a 6.374” inches/ 45. John’s first Heavy Gun target measured 8.225 inches / 93 and was followed up with a 7.119 inches / 95.
