9/14/2010 Federal Premium announced its specialty pheasant hunting shotgun ammunition today—Federal Premium Prairie Storm. Federal Premium Prairie Storm is designed to meet the rigors of the pheasant field, with a 70/30 mixture of copper- and nickel-plated lead shot, to give extra lethality and penetration. Prairie Storm uses the same technology that made Federal Premium's Black Cloud ammunition so popular, a "Flitecontrol" wad that opens from the rear and removes itself from the shot in a controlled manner. This consistency helps put 80 percent of shot in a 30-inch circle at 40 yards using a modified choke. In addition to the technology designed to make patterning more consistent, a portion of the proceeds will go to wildlife group Pheasants Forever, a habitat management organization for Pheasants and Quail.
