3/31/2011 Friends of NRA is auctioning off a special edition, master engraved Colt 100th Anniversary M1911 pistol to commemorate the centennial of the John Browning's legendary design. The engraving required 300 hours of work by Colt's Master Engravers George Spring, Steve Kamyk and Expert Engraver Jan Gwinnell. Over an ounce of 24-karat gold was used in the inlays, and in addition to the tastefully ornate styling, the pistol boasts genuine ivory grips scrimshawed with a bust of Samuel Colt and a specialized serial number to commemorate its uniqueness, "1911COLT001." The auction will conclude on April 28, 2011 at 9 p.m. For additional photos or to bid on this one-of-a-kind piece, visit the GunBroker.com auction page for the 1911.
