The Other Great Guns of John Browning (Page 2)

Browning gave us the world’s greatest pistol and so much more.

Space runs out quickly when profiling the guns of John Browning, and this doesn’t even touch on his military rifles and machine guns that helped win several wars, some of which are still in service around the world. Then there are his slide-action Winchester .22s, the great Colt Woodsman pistol, the Remington Model 8 semi-auto rifle and so many more. Perhaps another article for another time.

I just received a Colt 1903 Hammerless .32 for my birthday. The pistol has been passed down from my great-grandfather, to my grandfather, and to me. I think it is one of the smartest looking pistols ever designed.

I really wonder when the day will come when we stop trying to make anything more than the loosest of connections between JMB and the P-35 Hi-Power. Small Arms Review published a detailed article about a year or two ago that gave a very specific timeline for P-35 development. The majority of features came from Saive, not JMB. Credit should be given to whom credit is due. Minimal involvement with the Hi-Power does nothing to diminish the genius of Browning.

I own two Lever Action Winchester rifles, an original 1894 rifle, with octagon barrel and take-down, and a Model 71, which I believe is one of the strongest actions ever created in a lever rifle. Have fired both many times over the past 50+ years, and love them.

Great article, greater inventor. John Moses Browning was a genius! Thank you for the article, now we expect an expanded article on all of John's firearms.

Also, John Browning was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon). So we owe some of freedom to a Mormon.
