CCI Announces .22 LR Ammo for AR-Type Rifles

.22 Long Rifle AR-Tactical features a copper-plated round nose bullet to allow for smooth feeding in large-capacity tactical magazines.

CCI Ammunition is the latest company to offer a specially designed .22 LR round for use in AR-style tactical rifles. Dubbed the .22 Long Rifle AR-Tactical, the .22-caliber ammunition claims accuracy of 1.5-inch, 10-shot groups at 100 yards and was specifically engineered for use in the law enforcement and military Smith & Wesson M&P15-22, one of the first "Tactical" .22-caliber AR-style rifles to be introduced.

In addition to the engineering, the .22-caliber AR ammunition uses a CCI case, primer, bullet lube and a copper plated round nose bullet to ensure smooth feeding. The 40-grain bullet has a velocity of 1,200 fps.

Seriously? What's new about a 40gr copper washed HV loading? Pretty packaging and a press release to relieve the gullible public and department purchasing managers from their funds... ;)

The CCI AR tactical is a good round in the S&W M&P15-22, but not noticeably better than Federal Blue Box Bulk.

I have a Colt AR22 Rimfire, and have been using CCI's Mini Mags, since it has a problem with most other ammo. So I bought a box of the new CCI AR Tactical for my Colt, since they're made especially for these types of weapons, well that was a waste of $22.00! FTF and FTE with the new ammo, so I went back to the Mini Mags, and no problem at all. Went through 3, 30 rd mags effortlessly. So I don't know if the 1235 FPS (mini mags) compared to the 1200FPS (AR Tactical) was the difference, but I wasn't impressed.
