2/1/2012 Professional shooter Bennie Cooley helped design the JP Bennie Cooley Muzzle Brake, which reduces felt recoil by up to 70 percent on typical AR-15-style rifles. Compensators are available for both 0.875- and 0.925-inch barrel diameters to blend with most common barrel profiles. Redirected gases flow to the sides over flat, interior baffle surfaces and through square side vents to create a forward thrust that counteracts bullet recoil. Four ports on the top reduce muzzle rise, further helping to keep the rifle on target for follow-up shots. They are available in carbon steel with a matte-black oxide finish or stainless steel with a polished finish. All models are bored for .223 Rem./5.56 mm with 1/2-inch 28 threads, although they can be bored-through for larger calibers. Price: $90. Contact: JP Enterprises; (651) 426-9196; www.jprifles.com.
