Very appropriate article for shooters, and very well written. I would add that if you are a veteran and you are experiencing hearing loss, that you visit your nearest VA clinic and request a hearing aid. In many cases the VA will provide hearing aids at no cost to the veteran, saving you potentially thousands of dollars. They also provide batteries. You do not have to prove that your hearing loss is service connected, but if it turns out that it is, you may actually be entitled to a cash benefit.

The following is mentioned in the article but needs to be stressed: Go to an Audiologist! Go to an Audiologist! Go to an Audiologist! There are a lot of people selling hearing aids, but only Audiologists are qualified to diagnose your hearing loss, recommend the proper treatment, fit and support that treatment. I've been using hearing aids for nearly 30 years, I have three degrees in communication (none in Audiology by the way) and know what I'm recommending to be the truth and essential to successfully dealing with your hearing loss.

I don't have hearing loss other than what is normal due to aging. However, at the recent NRA convention in Houston I purchased a pair of in-the-ear noise suppression/hearing aid units from Tactical Hearing. They are wonderful - they suppress noises over 85dB, while also correcting for hearing loss. They are custom molded and extremely comfortable. I highly recommend this type of device to shooters.

So,what type of hearing aids does he recommend? There is an outrageous markup and many of these hearing aid salesmen are just plain thugs and bozos. My recommendation is go to a University audiologist who, more than likely, does not have a vested interest in selling a specific brand of hearing aids.

I recently bought a pair of hearing aids ( top of the line) for a substantial discount using the NRA benefits . You will be directed to a local dealer of Starkey or NuEar. And save a bundle!

You're right. Now get the NRA to get suppressors decriminalized and deregistered from the NFA so we can all shoot quieter.
