Nestled in a corner booth at the 2011 NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits, Elite Tactical Advantage, a manufacturer of firearms accessories, had the Devastator shotgun on display. Built on a Remington 11-87 shotgun platform, the Devastator's most interesting feature is its Recoil Reallocation System (RRS) that moves the standard recoil tube from the stock to forward of the receiver. By moving the recoil tube, the shotgun is able to accept a wide variety of stock configuations, and with the included adjustable springs in the new recoil system, the Devastator is able to compensate for a variety of shell loads and recoil, depending on user preference.

In addition to the RRS and smaller overall dimensions, the Devastator also features the company's 14-inch Rhino Rail, Bobcat 1100 fore-end, tactical trigger and charging handle to create a close-quarters, tactically inclined shotgun package that hasn't really been seen before. So noteworthy was the Devastator that several other companies on the exhibit hall floor were testing models to judge public interest.

For additional information on the Devastator, visit the Elite Tactical Advantage Devastator shotgun webpage.

Comment on this post

An Interview with Brock Lesnar of Fusion Ammo

Fans of fighter Brock Lesnar got a chance to meet the former UFC Heavyweight Champion at the Fusion ammunition booth at the 2011 Annual Meetings in Pittsburgh, Pa., last week. Lesnar spent over three hours signing autographs, taking pictures and talking hunting with NRA members.

While in Pittsburgh, Pa. for the 2011 NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits, Bob Morrison, CEO and President of Taurus, took some time to speak about the latest firearms from Rossi, including the Circuit Judge rifle.

The Rossi Circuit Judge is available as either a typical revolver or lever-action with an 18.5-inch barrel designed for situations that require the accuracy of a rifle and the portability of a handgun. Able to chamber .410 shotshells and .45 Colt, the Circuit Judge has received almost as much fanfare as the original Taurus Judge handgun.

On top of the Circuit Judge, Bob Morrison also talks about:

-The Rossi Wizard rifle, with easily interchangable barrels

-The Rossi Ranch Hand, a mare's leg-style lever-action handgun chambered for .357 Mag./.38 Spl., .44 Mag. or .45 Colt.

Building upon the successes of the Round-Up program, MidwayUSA took the opportunity to launch the 12*12*12 program, which allows customers, using the product code "121212," to donate $5 to the NRA Endowment for the Protection of the Second Amendment, up to 20 times per invoice. The Potterfield family will match these contributions dollar-for-dollar, up to $100 per invoice. It will run through the important election cycle of November, 2012.

In presenting the award, NRA Publications Editorial Director John Zent said that Forbes “shook up the shooting and hunting world with his five-pound rifles that shoot every bit as good as many twice that heavy.” As a young master gunsmith in West Virginia, Forbes had a vision of an accurate, reliable, bolt-action hunting rifle that weighed less than 6 pounds. He introduced his masterpiece at the 1985 SHOT Show and today his revolutionary approach to paring weight without sacrificing accuracy has created a template that sets the industry standard.

“Other firearm manufacturers and gunsmiths paid attention, studied what this fellow was doing, and, to varying degrees, have copied his ideas,” said Zent, adding that American hunters have embraced this trend wholeheartedly, creating a high demand for lightweight rifles and ultra-lightweight rifles. “Nowadays there’s no shortage and many models to choose from, quite a few that are pretty darned good—but only one original, still being made by the man we honor today.”

NRA Publications Executive Director Joe H. Graham said that for a quarter of a century, hunters have banked on the superb performance of easy-carry rifles from New Ultra Light Arms.” Melvin Forbes is a shining example of how achieving one’s dream involves sheer determination, dedication and a commitment to excellence where only the best will do,” he said.

Crossbreed Holsters was on hand at the NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits in Pittsburgh to showcase its extremely popular SuperTuck Deluxe and MiniTuck holsters. Made from a combination of genuine leather and Kydex, the SuperTuck Deluxe offers superior comfort and concealment, with adjustable ride depth and cant, and corrosion-resistant fittings. The SuperTuck Deluxe is also designed for a variety of handgun configurations.

The Crossbreed MiniTuck is an inside-the-waistband Kydex and leather holster designed for the newest generation of small-framed concealed carry pistols mainly chambered in .380 ACP, including the Ruger LCP, SIG Sauer 238 and Kahr PM series of pistols. It showcases many of the same features as the SuperTuck Deluxe in a smaller overall package.

In addition to the holsters, Crossbreed also had its new Combo Carrier up for exhibition. With minimalism in mind, the Combo Carrier offers slots for one additional magazine and a flashlight. Attached to a paddle-like OWB clip, the Combo Carrier can be taken off or put on extremely quickly and offers another level of accessorization for the defense-minded.

Sporting Kahr's 7 patented features, the CM9 is a 9 mm-chambered DAO pistol designed for concealed carry. The CM9 has a 3-inch barrel, is less than an inch wide and weighs 14 ozs. unloaded, attributable to its polymer frame and extremely small profile. The magazine capacity is 6 rounds.

Though not mentioned in the video below, Kahr also showed the requisite enthusiasm for the M1911 centennial by introducing a 100th Anniversary 1911 pistol of its own through its Auto-Ordnance brand. The anniversary pistols come with parkerized finishes, and are available in 3 different configurations: a traditional unmarked slide, a specially engraved edition and a traditional version with wood grips. The MSRP for each pistol is under $700.

Kahr also had exciting news following their acquisition of Magnum Research, Inc., makers of the famous Baby Desert Eagle pistol, last year. Magnum Research will be prominently featured in the upcoming reality show Gold Rush Alaska on the Discovery Channel. The show follows 6 unemployed men from Oregon who, following the economic collapse of the last few years, risk everything to move to Alaska and begin searching for gold. The series has completed its first season, and was recently renewed for a second.

Advanced Technology International, manufacturer of firearms accessories, was on hand at the NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits in Pittsburgh, Pa. to showcase its newest products: the Triton quickmount receiver system, mag-tube socket wrenches and 8-sided rail fore-end.

The Triton system allows easy swapping of any ATI rear stock or pistol grip by simply unfastening one screw, turning the laborious process into a 15-second operation.

The Mag Socket Wrenches operate under the same theory. Without the tool, unscrewing or resecuring a shotgun magazine tube can be a hassle, but this socket wrench specially designed to slip over a 12-gauge-sized tube frees the tube with a modicum of effort.

The most exciting product ATI had to offer, though, was its 8-sided free float aluminum fore-end, for the sheer versatility it gives the AR-type platform. In addition to equipping a rifle with any rail-mountable optic, with a slight turn of the firearm, the user can switch to a differently sighted optic. For example, on the top rail, you could mount a long-range riflescope while putting back-up iron sights on the rail just to the right. Without having to remove anything, you could instantly engage a close target and transition back to the riflescope by simply twisting the AR.

Watch below as Adam Albrecht of ATI demonstrates all of the products.
The M107A1 is a successor to the military's M107, known to the civilian market as the M82A1. The M107A1, chambered in .50 BMG, is 4 lbs. lighter than the M107, and features a redesigned bolt carrier group and recoil system, rounded muzzle brake and a PVD coating that decreases the need for lubrication. The weight loss is mainly attributable to the aluminum upper receiver and select use of titanium throughout the rifle.

The Multi-Role Adaptive Design rifle (MRAD), announced in January, is designed with a quick-change barrel feature that only requires unscrewing two bolts in order to be disassembled. In addition, it offers a host of user-comfort features, including single button length of pull adjustment, and the ability to manipulate the magazine release or safety while retaining firing grip. The MRAD is chambered in .338 Lapua Mag.

The Barrett REC7 PDW is the newest configuration of its REC7, a piston-operated rifle available in either 5.56 mm or 6.8 SPC. It features an 8-inch barrel, a specially designed piston system, and ease of accessibility to the operating system that wouldn't require removal of the Picatinny rails, allowing the shooter to keep his zero.

For additional information on any of the Barrett rifles above, please visit the Barrett Manufacturing web page.

The gun is a Holland & Holland “Royal” that belonged to a colorful Englishman-cum-elephant hunter named Fletcher Jamieson. The present owner, Logan B. Reed of the Pennsylvania Gun Collectors Assn., was graciously allowing NRA members to shoulder this great old classic and look over the very same V-notch sights that old Fletcher once aimed at mighty tuskers in the Zambezi Valley.

And that’s the thing about rifles like this .500/450 Nitro Express that was made in 1902— history. What else can you hold and cradle, admire and cherish that physically connects you to a bygone era? Clothes fall apart, boots rot, books mildew.

That’s what NRA members are seeing in spades, from a collection of Newton rifles to a display of Browning machineguns. It’s not all “new and improved” in the world of firearms.

Over the course of nearly 100 safaris, Boddington has hunted more than 20 African countries for an incredible array of game. Talking Africa with him is like talking songwriting with Paul McCartney or quarterbacking with Joe Montana. Seriously.

Boddington’s presentation ranged from the dangerous Big Five to myriad antelope and other unique animals. He revealed firsthand tips on identifying top areas and outfitters, on African geography, on safari-camp etiquette, and on guns and loads for Africa’s diverse game offerings. It was a crash course delivered in the campfire-buddy style that has made Boddington’s prolific writings and film work so engaging to hunters for more than three decades.

Winchester Ammunition is introducing a host of exciting new products this year, including its Blind Side waterfowling shotshells and an expansion of its popular PDX1 Defender line.

Winchester's newest and most technologically advanced product this year are the Blind Side hunting shotshells, previewed at SHOT Show 2011 earlier this year. Each 12-gauge Blind Side shell is packed with 100% Hex Shot, a hexahedron-shaped pellet whose unique shape offers better ballistics compared to standard round shot. In addition to tighter groupings and increased lethality, Hex Shot's shape allows more pellets to be packed into a standard 3- or 3 1/2-inch shotshell, giving you a better chance to hit the game you're aiming at. Blind Side 12-gauge shotshells are currently available in BB and No. 2 pellet sizes, 3- or 3 1/2-inch shell lengths.

In addition to Blind Side, as previewed earlier this year at the 2011 SHOT Show, Winchester also released the PDX1 Defender in .223 Rem. Designed with a solid bonded rear lead core and an unbonded front portion, designed to prevent over-penetration.
