The Coolest Movie Guns

 (10 Photos)

Firearms have been a part of the movies since “The Great Train Robbery” flashed onto the Silver Screen in 1903. In many movies the gun is as important as the character, and often is what makes a scene iconic. AmericanRifleman.org has put together a list of 10 favorite movie guns and why they are so remembered.

  • M134 Minigun from “Predator”
  • Smith & Wesson Model 29 from “Dirty Harry”
  • Suppressed Remington 11-87 from “No Country for Old Men”
  • John Wayne’s Winchester Model 1892 from “True Grit”
  • Colt AR-15 with M203 Grenade Launcher from “Scarface”
  • Smith & Wesson Mk II Hand-Ejector from “Raiders of the Lost Ark”
  • M60 Machinegun from “First Blood”

Walther PPK from the James Bond Movies

Yes, the gun itself, and the caliber (.32 ACP or .380 depending on the movie), aren’t that impressive, but the fact that James Bond uses this compact handgun, both with and without a suppressor, in countless movies brings its cool factor way up. Most of us have dreamed of being a 00 and saving the world while carrying a Walther PPK. If it’s cool enough for James Bond, it’s cool enough for us.

Walther PPK was the standard issue gun for Austrian police (no surprise, PPK stands for Police Pistol Short, after all), until they switched to the Glock 17. My father kept his throughout the year though. Was the first gun I ever shot. Yep, it's not really an impressive gun. But indeed the cool-factor from Bond using it is quite big.

Look again - this is no .32 - this is the .380 (9mm Kurz or "short") version - I own several of these - look carefully at the size of the hole in the muzzle. Some of his movies may very well have been made with a .32, but this ain't one of 'em...

I would like to carry a pistol bigger then the .32 ACP if I were 007.
