10 Handguns to Own Before You Die

 (10 Photos)

A “bucket list” refers to a list of things one wants to accomplish before “kicking the bucket.” The phrase was popularized in the 2007 movie, “The Bucket List,” but there are references that predate the film. If a bucket list can be things to do and places to go—why not guns to own? I’ve compiled a list of those I believe a handgun enthusiast should have at some time in his or her life.

  • Colt Single Action Army
  • Colt 1911 Government Model
  • Smith & Wesson Model 27
  • Smith & Wesson Model 29
  • Smith & Wesson Chiefs Special
  • Colt Woodsman
  • Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan
  • Browning Hi Power
  • Walther PPK
  • Glock 22

Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan

This massive double-action revolver is a great example of Bill Ruger’s legacy: a very well-made handgun with a special personality, just like Mr. Ruger. Designed, as the name suggests, to be a carry gun in bear country, it is about as sexy as a gun can get. Chambered in .44 Mag. or .454 Casull with a 2.5-inch barrel, it is a handful to shoot. But like most carry guns, you aren’t expected to take it to the range and go through 200 rounds every Saturday. At 42 ounces, it doesn’t weigh much more than a full-size 1911 or N-frame. We already have a .44 Mag. on the list so you might want to go with the Casull. And remember you can also shoot .45 Colt ammo.

You should really include a Freedom Arms in 454 Casull. It is a superbly made practical hunting gun. I don't know of another revolver which will shoot 2.5" groups at 100 yards. I've shot deer and pigs with mine. It has enough power to put any game in America down. Beautifully made.

Great List! At 75 I've owned them all except the Ruger, Glock and the PPK and I might just pick up a PPK before I kick-the-bucket.

I have the following SW29, 19, 60, - Colt 1911, Python, Diamondback 22lr, - Hi Standard Supermatic, 22 mag derringer, - Sig P210, P226, P232, - Pre WW2 P08, P38- Browning Hipower, Medalist, - Ruger 3 screw Super Blackhawk, Mk3, - Bersa Ultra Compact Thunder 9 . Sorry but I just couldn't limit myself, couldn't stop at just 10. So many guns, so little time. I'm currently still going on with getting what I see, like, works great, is interesting and pleasing to the eye. Its about the same as dating women, but not as hazardous when you have more than one.

Uhh..you really should put 200 rounds through your carry gun every Saturday. Especially your carry gun.
