It is absurd to claim that the jaegers lacked greased patches

As a reenactor I've always been around the Kentucky long rifle, I even owned one. All of the jäger rifles I've seen have terrible reputations of the frizzens being incredibly soft. That's not something you want with these guns even though it's a fix-able problem. I rave about my ferguson pattern it's my favorite gun I've ever owned. The rifle shoppe makes an excellent kit version that I absolutely love, I take it to every event I do.

The Ferguson Ordnance Rifle shoots standard British Carbine ball (62 caliber). If you lost powder you were not lubing the ball correctly, if you did the ball in beeswax and tallow (keeping the fouling soft) you can carry it all day without leakage.

You did a story on this rife in August 1971. This article described many defects in it that caused its withdrawal from service.

Seems like another missed opportunity of the military. The problems listed for the Ferguson seem to be solvable with a little thought. The fact that someone saw beyound the muzzle loader concept should have had lights going on over the heads of all the existing gun manufacturers. But apparently nothing happended! ! !
