Since then, the M1911 has been produced by a variety of manufacturers, served in multiple wars, and undergone numerous improvements and customizations to become what it is today. Arms and The Man

While searching through back issues, AmericanRifleman.org found the very first advertisement for a 1911 pistol to ever run in an NRA publication. Even then, the 1911 held a fascination as one of the first reliable semi-auto handguns to be offered to the public.

    I carried the Colt 45 auto both in Military and Law Enforcement, and still carry the same colt in Retirement I used in Law Enforcement, My son was Deputy Sheriff carrying 9mm and after shooting the perp 3 times with his 9mm the Perp fired again with Colt 45 auto, knocking my son out of action. He too has now retired and still carrying his Colt 45 auto !
