Springfield XDM 3.8

Springfield XDM 3.8

12/9/2009

I just received a gun that’s been the talk of the townthe Springfield XDM 3.8. There are two notable differences in the standard XDM’s and the XDM 3.8.

Obviously, the barrel was shortened from 4.5 inches to 3.8 inches on this model. The main purpose was for carry, but the way I see it if you change the medium to the small backstrap you have a standard XD, slightly customized.

The serrations on the frame are also different than the standard XDM. These have more of a kink to them as our friend Steve from thefirearmsblog.com describes. They look better, and from what I can tell, it does provide better purchase on the slide.

I've yet to test this one in the range, so I’ll try to get some videos up on our YouTube page soon. Keep checking back.

Brad, not too sure on when they'll be available. Most of the distributors and retailers place their orders during SHOT show, which is about two weeks away. Look for them in late February early March.

Yeah, I'd say go with the standard subcompact. I think it's more comfortable when carrying.

When and where will these become available for purchase? Moreso on the when because I imagine the where will all depends on my local dealers.

Brian, The XD subcompact has a 3" barrel and a shorter grip, but has a magazine capacity at 10. They also come with a 13 round extension, but then you're up to the same size grip as the XDM. If you go with the XDM...you'll have a slightly longer barrel and bigger grip, but you get a nice trigger and a match barrel. To me, it's really all personal preference.

So if I'm looking to get a handgun to possibly conceal, I should go with the Springfield XD subcompact vs this new XDM 3.8?
