When my phone rings and I see National Firearms Museum Senior Curator Doug Wicklund’s name on my caller I.D., I immediately know there’s a gun waiting for me. The other day he called and I went down to the museum to pick up the new arrivals and saw a bunch of boxes with Steyr’s name on them. Steyr makes some fine hunting rifles, but they also make one of the most famous tactical rifles ever, the AUG/A3.
Besides being fun and accurate, here is the quick skinny about this gun:
- It’s a gas operated semi-automatic.
- You can purchase additional length barrels and swap them out depending on your needs.
- It comes with two 30 round magazines.
- With the 16-inch barrel, it’s overall length is 28.25 inches.
- Shoots .223 Rem.
Even if you don’t know much about tactical rifles, one look at this gun and you’ll recognize it. It’s a great gun for all shapes and sizes of people. If you want to see this thing in action, here’s a little video of me trying it out; for research purposes only, of course.
